Sunflower greenery with Feng Shui

The sunflower plant, symbol of solar Fire par excellence, is considered the crown of Jupiter for the special shape of its petals arranged in a spiral and is particularly useful in Feng Shui applications of green. In the Celtic calendar it is associated with the summer solstice festival, Litha.

There are three fundamental aspects to consider if you want to try to use the powerful energy of the sunflower in our homes: 1. The position of the plant which must necessarily face a south-east or south direction; 2. The possibility of growing it in the open ground if a garden is available, or in a pot; 3. The position in the azimuthal astrological chart of the planets Jupiter and Sun.

As regards cultivation there are several criteria to follow, starting from the choice of the cultivar suitable for development in open ground or in a pot, taking into account that the sunflower can reach considerable height (up to 4 m).

Other important parameters to take into account for cultivation are irrigation and the type of soil. Since sunflowers prefer well-drained soil and, at the same time, require high volumes of irrigation, you need to have plenty of water available, especially in the summer.

As for cultivation in pots, there are varieties of dwarf sunflowers that are well suited to developing in little soil, although you will always need to take into account the optimal exposure and irrigation needs for the sunflower.

If you want to use sunflowers to balance your home with Feng Shui, you must evaluate not only the exposure, which must be the best possible with respect to the solar cycle, but also the balance with respect to the planetary positions of the inhabitants, in order to create a perfect Earth-Sky balance.

In the specific case of birth charts characterized by afflicted Sun and Jupiter, with depressive implications, the greenery remedy with sunflower is particularly recommended.

An illustrious example of self-therapy is given by the very wide range of sunflower reproductions that Van Gogh has made immortal in the history of painting. For those who cannot enjoy the sunflower live in the garden or in a vase, a beautiful reproduction of the many sunflowers of Van Gogh, placed in the appropriate direction according to the Chinese Compass and astrology, is an equally effective solution, being able to enjoy it continuously over time.

The sunflower, of American origin, was an important element of the solar cults of pre-Columbian populations and subsequently imported into the rest of the world. It was received for its evident symbolism both by ancient religions such as the Celtic one and by the world of art, not only painting but also literature: in the 19th century, the Irish writer, poet and playwright Oscar Wilde adopted the sunflower as the symbol of his aesthetic movement.
