Feng Shui decoration of rooms to the northwest: in this direction the Ba Gua has, as a reference trigram, three continuous lines that represent Father Heaven, God, the Yang energy par excellence, archetypically connected to the Dragon and in the Wu Xing to Metal and the shape of the Circle. How to enhance the northwest in the Ba Gua of our homes and what objects/remedies to use.
TRIGRAM DESCRIPTION
The trigram with three continuous lines is called Qian 乾.
Qián is cosmic order and powerful perseverance.
“God (Di) fights in the sign of Qián.”
“The Creative determines the domain.”

Qián is creativity, pure yang, energy, light, generation and regeneration, purity, spirit, and transcendence. It is the home of 1 the gods and the origin of all things. It acts through the law of time, directs all movements in the universe, sets the time and amplitude of the planet’s orbits, and causes day and night, summer and winter. But it is pure idea, never reality. It needs the earth to transform its ideas into substance.
The animal of paradise is the dragon, its size is undefined. It lives in galaxies as the Dragon Sign and follows the huge hand of the Big Dipper. It is the time of seasons, days, and all things. It enters the eggs of the turtle and hatches the newborn turtles all together and rushes to the sea. It lives on the mountains and in the depths of the waters.
Heaven and earth determine the direction.
FENG SHUI APPLICATION
“Once the Trigram and its direction have been described using the Chinese Compass, we can use the Wu Xing to characterize the sector of our house, also taking into account its intended use to then practically choose the type of furniture.
Of course, it would be appropriate to find an important symbolic reference to apply precisely in the exact direction of northwest.
In the Western tradition, a “magical” object that allows us to connect with the Sky and the Circle is the Shield, in particular we mean the famous shield of Achilles, admirably described by the poet Homer:”
English Translation from Vincenzo Monti’s italian version:
“There he made the earth, the sea, the sky, And the tireless Sun, and the round Moon, and the diverse stars with which sparkles The heavenly vault, crowned, And the Pleiades, and the Hyades, and the star Of Orion, stormy one, and the Great Bear Which is also called the Wagon. Around the pole It turns, and Orion it beholds, Alone, apart from the baths of the sea.”
Explanation:
- Context: This passage is from Homer’s Iliad, Book XVIII, verses 483-489. It describes the shield of Achilles, which the god Hephaestus is forging. The shield is a microcosm of the world, and this passage focuses on the celestial elements.
- “There he made…” “He” refers to Hephaestus, the god of the forge.
- “…the tireless Sun…” The sun is described as “untiring” because it constantly moves across the sky.
- “…the round Moon…” The moon’s roundness is emphasized, highlighting its shape.
- “…the diverse stars…” The variety of stars in the night sky is noted.
- “…the heavenly vault, crowned…” The stars are seen as adorning the sky like a crown.
- “…the Pleiades, and the Hyades…” These are star clusters, important constellations in the night sky.
- “…the star of Orion, stormy one…” Orion is a prominent constellation, and “stormy” may refer to its association with winter storms.
- “…the Great Bear Which is also called the Wagon…” The Great Bear constellation (Ursa Major) is also known as the Wagon or Big Dipper.
- “…Around the pole It turns…” The Great Bear circles the north celestial pole.
- “…and Orion it beholds…” The Great Bear is always visible in the sky and seems to “watch” Orion.
- “…Alone, apart from the baths of the sea.” This is a more poetic way of saying that the Great Bear never sets below the horizon (it’s circumpolar). The “baths of the sea” refers to the ocean, where stars were thought to “bathe” when they set.

Of course, a direct connection with the energy of the formidable Myrmidon, which determined the disappearance of a cosmos (Troy), a bridge between the remote past of humanity and the recent one, could be a bit exaggerated, but it can be taken as an example to look for a circular reference that represents the Sky and its most known configuration since the time of the Egyptians, namely the zenith of the celestial vault with its most known constellations: the Big Dipper, the North Star, the Pleiades and the Hyades with Orion.

In the world of interior design, there are several interesting solutions that can be placed in the most diverse environments, thus allowing the representation of the Qian Trigram, whether the northwest direction is in a bedroom, a dining room, a bathroom or a kitchen.
For a dining room we can opt for a ceramic plate with celestial symbols.

For a bedroom, there is the option of an astronomical lamp:

For a kitchen instead:
